Janice Lee McCarthy, 78, of Harbor Springs died Thursday, October 6, 2022. She was born August 29, 1944, in Petoskey, the daughter of the late Thor and Myrtle (Holburn) Duncan.

Janice was born and raised in Petoskey. She attended most of high school in Petoskey but moved to Traverse City her senior year where she graduated from Traverse City High School in 1962. After graduating she moved to Ann Arbor where she lived with her previous husband, James Braun for about 6 years. Her family moved back to Traverse City where Janice worked as a secretary for Burwood’s for over 20 years. She later married her high school sweetheart, the late Dave McCarthy. They moved back to Petoskey where she worked for a few years at McLaren Hospital.

After retirement, she spent her days tending to her flower garden, reading, spending time with friends, and following the adventures of her 6 grandchildren. Janice also enjoyed spending time with her graduating class group, Yahoo 62. She loved to travel especially to Europe and Mexico where she was always at the beach.

She was the best mother, grandmother, in-law and friend.

Janice is survived by her children; Michael (Marieta) Braun, Robert Braun; stepchildren, Kim (John) Holliday, and Craig (Kim) McCarthy; grandchildren, Michael, Conar, Collin, Caden, Morgan, and Kayla, great-grandchildren, Milo, Rowan and Arna; siblings; Thora (Jim) Hausler, Dean Duncan, and Tom (Meg) Duncan

She was also preceded in death sisters, Darlene Alcott and Beverly Graham.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Friendship Centers of Emmet County in Petoskey.
