Life Story / Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Jeff Baase announces his passing in the early morning hours of May 8, 2025. He fought a long and brave battle with esophageal cancer.
Jeff was born and raised in Traverse City, the youngest of four children. He worked in building management and construction trades, and was a talented woodworker, whose custom touches could be found in all the family homes Anne suggested he remodel.
He loved his family, all things outdoors, and his Wednesday gatherings in the cave with his dear buddies, playing music, eating chill dogs, swilling Labatt’s and trying to remember the words. He was a gifted harmonica player, taught by his grandpa at age 6.
He is survived by Anne, his wife of 48 years, dear daughter Megan and beloved granddaughter Madeline. Also surviving him are Meg’s fiancé Brandon Larson and his children Landon and Kailyn; brother Steve (Jackie) Baase, sisters Jann Mack (Jim Simmons) and Linda Strauss (Michelle Gardham), brothers-in-law Mike Skarp (Curt Peterson), Roger Skarp (Karen), and Doug Skarp.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Vivian Baase, in-laws Tom and Edie Skarp and brother-in-law Denny Mack.
Our family sincerely thanks the friends and family who have wrapped their arms around us during this difficult time. We are also grateful to Heartland Hospice staff for their skill and compassion. If you wish to make a donation in Jeff’s name, please consider Heartland.
A casual gathering will be held Saturday, June 21 from 2-5pm at the family’s home on High Lake. Bring your lawn chairs. Summer barbecue fare.
