Joan Matravers Wason, age 91, passed away on September 22, 2017, at Cherry Hill Haven, in Traverse City, Michigan, after a brief residence there. Previously she had lived in her beloved Empire, Michigan since about 1990. Joan was born in Manitowoc, WI in June of 1926. She spent happy years growing up there, and often shared memories of her mother and father, Mimi and Bobo, and her two sisters, Faith and Mitzi. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Principia College and married Richard Wason in 1949, who passed on in 1990. Joan and Dick had two children, Tim and Wendyl (married to David Bradley), and a grandson, Chester Elliott. She served as an elementary teacher in Glen Ellen, Illinois, for 23 years. Joan found deep comfort in the Christian Science faith, and radiated joy and optimism. She loved adventures, and traveled the world, visiting Europe, Africa and Japan, as well as Alaska. She cared passionately and supported causes related to animals and the environment, and was a life-long learner. To the end, she brought happiness and laughter to those who knew her. A family memorial service will be held in the summer of 2018. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share your thoughts and memories with the family.
