Joe “Alan” Long, 83, of Traverse City, died Friday, April 18, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1942 in Logansport, Indiana the son of Joe Dweese and Ruby Pauline (Searer) Long.

He graduated from Purdue University with a Doctorate Degree in Psychology. Alan was a Psychologist in Private Practice with Psychological Associates testing adults and children with Disabilities. He was a member of Rotary International and the American Psychological Association.

Alan enjoyed golf, fishing, and was musically talented, playing the Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet. He loved Jazz Music, Bird Watching and the New York Yankees. Joe was a Connoisseur of Wine.

Alan is survived by his wife, the former, Deborah Jane (Hodgman) Long; they were married on June 25, 1994 in Homewood, Illinois; stepsons, Josh Carty and Sean (Diana) Carty; step-granddaughters, Rhiannon and Hannah; brothers, Dennis (Rita) Long and Evan (Stephanie) Long; 8 nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ruby Long and sister, Deena Miller.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Special Olympics or a charity of choice.

An informal gathering will be held 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday, May 31, 2025 at Life Story Funeral Home. A brief sharing of stories will start at 3:00 pm.
