Life Story / Obituary
John (Jack) MacVeagh of Traverse City died Sunday December 9, 2012 at Bay Ridge Assisted Living. John was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 20, 1930 to the late John Henry and Marie Frances (Petz) MacVeagh. He married Josephine (Ena) Bryce Cowan of Glasgow Scotland on September 8, 1956. Jack was preceded in death by his sister Rosemary Newton. He is survived by his wife and children Robert John MacVeagh and Alice Marie(Frank) Sluss. He was also very proud of his granddaughter Heather MacVeagh.
Jack worked as a teamster and truck driver for General Hardwood company in Detroit . It was here that he developed a lifelong passion for woodworking and cabinet making. One of his regular truck routes brought him to beautiful Northern Michigan where he decided to retire and build his dream home. Jack and his wife completed the interior of their home as a team.
Jack also worked for Chrysler in security for more than twenty years. He loved to talk about how their cars and trucks outperformed the competition.
Cremation has taken place. A private burial will be held at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan at a later date.
Jack was a kind and generous man who always thought of others first. He enjoyed helping others and would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it more than he did. Accordingly, memorial contributions in memory of Jack can be made to the Antrim County Commission on Aging. Please visit Jack's webpage at www.lifestorynet.com to sign the guest book and share a message or memory with his family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City to handle the arrangements.
