Life Story / Obituary
Kyle "Camo Kid" Shellenbarger, 54, of Rapid City, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Kyle was born in Hale, Michigan, the son of Perry Clare and Alice Florence (Dooley) Shellenbarger. He graduated from Hale High School and continued his education at Central Michigan University.
Following in his father's footsteps, Kyle became a long-time auctioneer, hunter, and trapper. A true craftsman, he was the proud owner of Camo Construction. His love for nature was evident in his passion for hunting, participating in every season with both bow and rifle. Despite his rugged exterior, Kyle had a soft spot for animals and was a talented dog trainer.
Kyle is survived by his beloved wife, Jamie Michelle (Whiteherse) Shellenbarger; his cherished daughter, Hunter Shellenbarger; and his brothers, Keyno (Karen) Shellenbarger and Tyson (Terri) Shellenbarger. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and various other family members. His loyal Copper Lab, Jess, and his cats, Trapper and Trigger, were always by his side.
Kyle shared a close bond with his brother Keyno, who was a constant source of support throughout his life. The two often hunted together, shared stories, and gave each other nicknames—Kyle was "Jake," and Keyno was "Tom." He is preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Alice Shellenbarger.
An informal celebration of Kyle’s life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Johnny’s Torch Rivera in Rapid City.
In honor of Kyle’s love for animals, the family requests that contributions be made to the Cherryland Humane Society, 1750 Ahlberg Rd, Traverse City, MI 49686.
