Lanny Lyon

Lanny Lee Lyon, 65, of Buckley died at home Friday, September 28, 2012 with his loving family at his side following his courageous battle with cancer. Lanny married Karen Kay (Youngblut), who survives, on July 18, 1987 in Mesick.

He was born March 16, 1947 in Traverse City the son of Loyd and Ione (Brown) Lyon.

Lanny owned L & L Flooring in Traverse City and Buckley and attended Buckley Faith Community - Church of the Nazarene. Lanny was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He volunteered with the Father Fred Foundation cancer drive and rode his motorcycle many times in the "Ride for Father Fred." Lanny participated in the annual Blessing of the Bikes in Baldwin. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, Nascar and stopping at the casino whenever he could find the time.

Lanny is survived his children, Leigh (Nicholas) Hennrick of Traverse City, Terri (Randy) Ward and Thomas (Tina) Calley both of Buckley and Tammi Calley of Traverse City; 7 grandchildren; his brother, Vern (Diane) Bailey in Traverse City and sister-in-law, Bonnie Lyon of South Carolina and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mom Edna Lyon; siblings Henry, Michael "Mikey", and Linda Lyon.

Donations may be made to the Father Fred Foundation or the Hospice of Michigan.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Traverse City where the family will greet friends starting at 10am.
