Leonard "Len" Emert

Leonard “Len” Emert, 83, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, June 11, 2025. He was born on November 15, 1941 the son of Eugene and Elizabeth Emert.

He graduated from Traverse City Central High School. Len then entered the United States Navy and was Honorably Discharged as a Seaman and upon release he moved back to Traverse City. He started working at Montgomery Wards and met his future wife, Judith Ann Tobin; they were married December 17, 1971.

Len was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. His family was special, important and he loved spending time with all of them. Len loved the Boston Celtics! He once tried out for the Celtics team and made the second cut.

Len is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Chad Emert, Shanon (Dan) McGoran and Kyle (Katie) Emert; grandchildren, Ashton and Aislin; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Elizabeth; son, Clint Austin Emert; siblings, Wes Emert and Elaine Bendickson and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Grand Traverse Pavilions for the great care they provide to Len and the support to his family.

An informal gathering will be held from 12 noon to 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Life Story Funeral Home. A brief Military Honors ceremony and sharing of stories will start at 1:00 pm.
