Life Story / Obituary

Lila Lee Jessop, “Lee”, 78, of Traverse City, MI passed on May 31, 2016 of lung cancer. She was born to the late¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ Paul and Florence Langmesser on July 30, 1937, in Detroit, MI.

Lee graduated from Detroits’ Edwin Denby High School in 1956. She married the late Norman Jessop on June 7, 1958, and they lived together in Detroit before relocating with their children to Beulah, MI in 1974. In 1983, Norm and Lee moved to Ft. Myers, FL to “try it out” for 6 months and stayed for over 20 years.

Widowed in 1998, Lee moved back to northern Michigan in 2005 to be near her twin grandchildren and watch them grow up. For several years, she helped to raise them, seeing them on and off the school bus every day and driving them to many events. She was a sales associate with K-Mart the majority of her working career in Detroit, Traverse City and Ft. Myers locations. Lee had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats, loved to read romance novels, play bingo, cards, Yahtzee and games on her computer. Lee was an unpretentious, practical, spunky, feisty woman with a great sense of humor, who we loved and will miss dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman H. Jessop, parents, Paul F. and Florence Langmesser, sister, Dorothy Hillyard, nephew, Dale Hillyard, niece-in-law, Andrea DeVolder, father and mother-in-law, Howard and Ethel Jessop.

Lee is survived by son, Norman Jessop, daughter, Cheryl (Matt) Bouschor, grandsons, Ian Bouschor and Dalton Bouschor, Linda Little (affectionately referred to as daughter #2), sister, Joan (Jim) DeVolder, nephews, Steven (Johanne) DeVolder, Mark DeVolder and Doug Hillyard, great-nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Chuck (Dorothy) Hillyard, and sister-in-law, Marda Benson.

There are no services planned. Memorials can be made to the Munson Regional Health Care Foundation; designate the Women's Cancer Fund. 1150 Medical Campus Dr., Traverse City, MI 4968 or the Detroit Fireman's Benevolent Fund, 1301 Third St., Ste 329, Detroit, MI 48226.
