Life Story / Obituary
Linda Lou McKay, 74, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the Munson Hospice House.
She was born on September 28, 1947, in Traverse City the daughter of Forrest and Nancy (Shaw) Montgomery. Linda graduated from Traverse City Central High School. She attended Cosmetology School in Florida and moved back to Traverse City; where she finished and received her license. She then moved to St. Louis Missouri where she started her career in 1969 and was still doing hair until recently. Linda also worked for Estee Lauder at Macy’s for over 20 years.
She met her husband Terry in St. Louis, where they lived many years before returning to Traverse City to raise their family.
Linda loved cosmetology, specifically makeup and had a passion for making others feel beautiful. She had a way of making everything fun and laughed a lot. Linda enjoyed music and dancing. She had many friends whom she enjoyed visiting with and going to social gatherings. Linda and Terry spent their winters in Sarasota Florida. She could often be found floating in the pool and enjoying the sunshine. Going for walks on the beach and searching for sea glass and shells was one of her favorite pastimes. Traveling to visit family on the Jersey shore held a special place in her heart. She also loved shopping. Whether it was a department store or second hand shop, she loved finding new treasures. Throughout Linda’s entire life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those around her. Her positive attitude and encouraging nature was contagious. Trying to summarize such an extraordinary life in a few paragraphs is nearly impossible. She loved her family and friends fiercely and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Linda is survived by her husband, Terry McKay; they were married on December 19, 1969 in Traverse City; son, John (Bridget Pawlowski) McKay of Springlake; daughter, Jennifer (Justin) Roy of Traverse City; grandchildren, Abby, Charlie McKay and Jillian, Jaxon and Jordan Roy; sisters, Mary Montgomery of Traverse City and Susie Arendt of California; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joann and Bob Toppins of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces and nephews and their faithful and loving dog, Sweet Pea.
