Marcia was born on November 25, 1933 to William Henry and Marie (Craig) Hutchinson in Benton Harbor, Michigan at Mercy Hospital. Marcia was a private, independent, and giving person. She joined the Catholic Church as an adult. Her faith led her to participate as an active member of the Justice and Peace Commission with St. Francis in Traverse City.

Marcia always wanted to contribute to her community and help others. Her caring nature was evident in her volunteer work with Munsen Hospital and Easter Seals. In kind, members of her community enriched her life. The levels of support she received by BATA bus drivers, people in her apartment building and even the bank tellers allowed her the ability to live with purpose and dignity. Many will remember the efforts she took to get around town with her unique walking stick.

Marcia is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bonnie Shufelt; her brother, Richard Hutchinson, and one son, Paul Smith.

Marcia is survived by 3 children, William Smith, Kim (Steve) Eddy, and Ellen (Brad Walker) Smith; several grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Francis Church or ProMedica Hospice.

A Funeral Mass will be held 2pm, Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Francis Catholic Church. The visitation will start at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.
