In Loving Memory of Michael Andrew Montgomery

February 5, 1998 – October 27, 2025

Our hearts are broken as we share the passing of Michael Andrew Montgomery, who left this world far too soon on October 27, 2025, at the age of 27. Born and raised in Traverse City, Michigan. Michael was a kindhearted soul with energy, laughter, light, and creative touch.

Michael was the beloved son of Tanya McClendon (Ian McClendon) and Robert Montgomery. Mike was a proud, devoted father to his daughter Selena (7), and Roger (3), and his partner Nikita. He is also survived by his brother, Matthew (Donna, daughter Allison, Lillian and son Isaac), his sister, Ashley Montgomery (Alizabeth and AbbieGail), brother, Timothy (Melissa), sister, Ashley Ruoff (Izzy, children Olivia, Lincoln, Liam and Mason) and adopted brother Tony, stepsister, Bella and Jazmin (carmen), grandparents, Roger & Carolyn Rice, Richard & Cindy Montgomery, many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever carry him in their hearts.

From a young age, Michael showed a love for art, nature, fishing, hunting, bowling, and an incredible gift for working with his hands. He could fix almost anything, build something beautiful from nothing, and make anyone laugh no matter what they were going through. He never met a stranger — his warmth and willingness to help others made him a friend to all. Wherever he went, music followed filling every room he entered— loud, alive, and full of energy, just like him making even ordinary moments special.

Michael had big dreams and an even bigger heart. He wanted to change the way addiction was seen and to make a difference for others who struggled. Though he lost his battle before he could make that dream a reality, his compassion and courage will continue to inspire others to carry it forward.

Michael’s absence leaves an ache that words can’t fill, but his love and light will never fade. He will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered by all who were lucky enough to know him.

A memorial of life and gathering in Michael's memory will be held at the VFW Post located at 3400 Veterans Dr, Traverse City, MI 49684 Sunday, November 16th, 2025, from 3 PM to 5 PM.
