Mike Ray, age 68 departed from this earth Aug. 10, 2019
in his home surrounded by loved ones. Born in LaGrange, IN June 25, 1951 to Ruth and Cletus Ray. He graduated Lakeland High School.
He found the love of his life while cruising in his 1966 Chevelle Super Sport. Ann Baldwin married Mike on March 4, 1972. They settled in Shipshewana, IN to raise their three amazing children.
Mike worked as an electrician and as a Plant Manager in the mobile home industry. Mike found his true calling as an Innkeeper at Ray's Retreat Country Inn in Gaylord, MI. Mike's love for talking and sitting around a campfire endeared many to him at the motel.
They took their children camping and hiking often which has given them a love for the outdoors as well. He also taught ( by example) to them a fanatical love of Notre Dame football.
Mike had a strong faith in God. Before moving north he was an active member of the Stone Lake Church of God. His favorite bible verse was Isaiah 41:10. So do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you, will uphold you with my righteous hand.
Preceding him in death are both his parents; brother, John; mother and father in law and the dog that was his best friend Sparky T. Ray.
Surviving are his wife, Ann; his children,- The world's best fisherman as distinguished by Mike himself, Bryan (Angela) Ray, Kevin (Dawn) Ray who he shared his love of racing. The favorite daughter Lyndy (Tim) Ray Kupferer; grandchildren, Taylor Matteson, Kaylee Ray, Daylen Ray, Chandler Ray, Delaney Ray, Connor Kupferer and Lyla Ray.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday August 15, 2019 at the Life Story Funeral Home,400 Hammond Rd. W., Traverse City Mi. The family will greet friends starting at 1:00PM. A luncheon will follow the service at the home of Bryan Ray, directions will be provided.
