Morris "Morrie" Nelson

Morris “Morrie” Herman Nelson, 85 of Traverse City died Friday, November 8, 2024. He was born on April 18, 1939 in Ludington, Michigan the son of Oscar W. and LaVerna Mae (Thiel) Nelson. Morrie was a 1957 graduate of Ludington High School.

He retired after 35 years of service with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company as a Regional Office Manager.

Morrie and his wife Loretta were former members of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Ludington and the Traverse City Elk Lodge #323.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, hunting and especially spending time with his family. He had a kind heart, fun personality, was a great mentor and was respected by many.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loretta Ann (Guske) Nelson; they were married on June 27, 1959; children, Cheryl (Mark Juczynski) Nelson, Matthew (Sandra Barhitte) Nelson and Suzanne (Lane) Gillette; grandchildren, Jason, Kara, Amanda and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Allissa, Alexis, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Kaylee, Adeline, Emelia and Elodie.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and LaVerna; son, Christopher and great-grandson, Cade.

Donations in Memory of Morrie, may be made to your favorite charity. Cards may be sent to Mrs. Nelson at their family home in Traverse City.

The family would like to thank the staff at Medilodge of Leelanau, Suttons Bay and Hospice of Michigan for the great care they provided to Morrie during his illness, and for their kindness to his family.

A celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
