Myron “Mike” Eric Hellman, age 75 of Buckley, Michigan died Friday July 26, 2024.
The son of Eric T. Hellman and Verna (Knudsen) Hellman was born in El Paso County, Colorado Springs, Colorado on January 29, 1949.
Mike graduated from Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colorado in 1967. He began his law enforcement career in 1971 with a County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado before relocating and becoming employed with the Baytown Texas Police Department in 1981. Mike retired as a Corporal from Baytown in 2020 with over 2,100 hours of law enforcement training and a Master Peace Officer Certificate with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education. Mike was also a Texas State Certified Instructor and was a vital part of Baytown’s Department of Tactical and Emergency Driving course. Mike garnered a rare level of respect from his peers, always known to be a “Street Cop – A Cop’s Cop – Mr. Cool . . . Never getting rattled.”
Mike enjoyed working on old hot rods and had a particular desire in retirement to restore his father’s old 1949 Studebaker pickup.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years Rebecca; his sons, Eric (Janice) Hellman, Stephen Hellman and Nathaniel Hellman; his sister, Lillian Jean (George) Nass; his mother-in-law, Leona Gibson; his sister-in-law, Roberta (Joe) Novak; brothers-in-law, Curtis Gibson and Spencer (Shannon) Gibson; his grandchildren, Cheyenne Hellman, Matthew Hellman, Logan Hellman and Connor Hellman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Eric T. Hellman, his mother, Verna (Knudsen) Hellman; first wife, Grace Anne Brothers; brothers, Harold Hellman and Lauren Hellman; sister, Anita Hellman; father-in-law, Charles Gibson and brother-in-law, Jeffery Gibson.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday August 3, 2024 at Buckley Wayside Congregational Church. Burial will follow at Grant Township Cemetery, Karlin Rd. and Zue Road.
