Penny Marie Kirt, age 65, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on April 8th, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of Benny Hall Sr. and Dollena Burd (Gordon). Penny was born in Traverse City on November 3rd, 1952. She graduated from Traverse City Senior High School in 1970.

Penny married the love of her life, Stanley (Poncho) Kirt at Saint Francis Church in Traverse City. Their 45 years of marriage has been a blessing. Through the years they loved, laughed, supported, each other and lived each day to its fullest.

Family was everything to Penny. Above all, her children – Tara and Tracy, her favorite son-in-law, Eric, and grandchildren, John, Rachel, Luke, Tia– were her greatest treasures.

Love and pride for each of them cannot be duplicated. She will forever remain in their hearts; celebrating from Heaven each accomplishment throughout their lives.

Penny adored her sister-friendships and always treasured time with them. Playing bunco for decades, shopping trips and most of all her scrapbook moments that captured her life’s legacy and great memories.

“Girls Weekends” with her life-long dearest friends were a special treat. She loved these times and will be laughing in the background with them, every time they gather together…

Penny spent time at home raising her two daughters when they were young but when the time came to work she worked as an administrative assistant spending the last 16 years with her work family at Catholic Human Services.

She loved having very cherry picnics in their backyard celebrating with croquet, horse shoes, swimming in the pool, bon fires with s’mores and fireworks.

Penny’s unwavering faith in God and her acceptance of His plan for her has taught us to remain positive, no matter what.

Penny’s motto to live each day to the fullest has impacted so many people. Our beautiful memories of her will live on in each of our hearts forever.

Penny will forever be missed by her two daughters; Tracy Kirt, Tara Steimel (Eric) and four grandchildren; John, Rachel, Luke, Tia, Brothers; Benny Hall (Billie), Michael Hall (Connie), and her beautiful mother; Dollena (Dee) Burd.

Penny was preceded in death by her father Benny Hall Sr., Step-father Jack Burd and loving husband, Stanley Kirt.

A visitation will be held at Saint Francis Church on Friday, April 13th, from 5 to 7pm, with a Rosary to follow. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April, 14th at 11 a.m, at Saint Francis Church, with a luncheon to follow. The family will greet friends starting at 10 am.

Penny wants you to celebrate! She would sing to you… “Don’t eat too much cake or you’ll get a belly ache."

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Down syndrome Association of Northwest Michigan.
