Philip Francis Pomber, age 89 of Elk Rapids, died June 8, 2018.

He is French and Swedish and was born on March 1, 1929 in Sault Sainte Marie, Ontario, Canada to Joseph Phillip Francis and Jennie (Widman) Pomber.

Philip was a combat Veteran serving in the Army during the Korean War. He was a Wood Model Maker for General Motors; retiring in 1988 after 34 years of service.

Philip and his wife, Julie lived in the Detroit suburb of St. Clair Shores for many years before moving to Elk Rapids and making it their home.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids and the Elk Rapids Sportsman's Club and the NRA. He also volunteered at community events such as Hunter's Safety, Fishing Derby and Harbor Days. Philip enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, traveling and spending his winters in Port St. Joe, Florida.

He is survived by his sons, Eric (Sharon) of Gross Pointe Woods and Chris (Debbie) of St. Clair Shores; grandchildren, Eric (Sawyer Newman) Pomber of Marblehead, MA and Phillip Pomber of Mackinaw Island; sister, Mildred Gnegy of Troy; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Philip is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Julie Pomber who died May 8, 2018 and ten siblings.

A memorial service will take place 3pm, Friday, June 15, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids. The family will greet friends starting at 2pm

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Elk Rapids Garden Club to continue honoring his wife, Julie.
