Raymond Joseph Reamer, 87, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

He was born on September 11, 1936 in Grand Traverse County the son of Joseph A. and Frances (Endres) Reamer.

Raymond joined the United States Army and served from 1956 to 1958 during the Korean War and then the Army Reserve until 1962. He was a member of the Traverse City American Legion, Post 35.

Raymond retired from the State of Michigan working as a Cook and in Maintenance for over 35 years at the Traverse City State Hospital. He also worked as a Gas Appliance Installer and as a handyman for people in the area.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards and especially enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s company. Many locals are familiar with Ray as he sold fresh and affordable vegetables at his road side stand for decades, even up to the very end of his life.

Raymond is survived by his children; Christinea (Larry) Podsaid, Craig (Sue), Clint (Mary), Valerie (Steve Bryan) Quinby and Kim (Jennifer); grandchildren, David, Brianna, Austin, Nolan, Drew, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Nick, Jacob, Jay, Serena, Justin, Lexi and Jade; great-grandchildren, Eliana, Gabriella, David Asher, Judah, Brianna, Lucas, Calloway and Kinsley; sisters, Rosie Duell and Doris Rodes and brothers, Robert (Bette Lou) Reamer, Ron Waukazoo and Roger Miller.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, sister, Marilyn Rice and brother, Ralph Reamer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.

The family will greet friends starting at noon. Military Honors with a Celebration of Life will start at 1pm, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Life Story Funeral Home. A light food reception will continue until 3pm.

Burial for Raymond and Betty will be in the St. Mary’s Hannah Cemetery, Kingsley, at a later date.
