Richard William Hill went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 8. 2024 at Bay Ridge Assisted Living. He was born December 1, 1935 to the late Bill and Gladys (Lemcool) Hill and raised on Cedar Lake in Greilickville.

Upon high school graduation he served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Prairie AD-15 and completed an around the world tour. Shortly after returning in 1958 he met and married in 1960 the love of his life, Sharon Carpenter. He was a hard worker and great family man who poured himself into the lives of his children and grandchildren.

Dick was a machinist, a beekeeper and worked with his father as Hill Construction with carpentry being his life work. Dick also was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. A great joy was fishing with his grandchildren which earned him the nickname of "Fish Whisperer."

Dick and Sharon spent many years serving as cooks for teen church camp, went on a mission trip to Mexico and loved teaching home-schooled teens the skills of carpentry and furniture building. He loved to teach his kids and grandchildren anything he could whether it be in the great outdoors, in the woodworking shop or on the lake.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, James (Melissa Ball) Hill, Karen (John) Vidal, Linda (Kevin) Zick, and Penny (Nick) Nitelet; 17grandchildren, Taylor and Jessica Hill, Jack, Elizabeth and Catherine Vidal, Alex (Bridget) Zick, Alyssa (Elise) Jadwin, Aiden Zick, Nicholas (Danielle), Emmalee, Biddie, Grace Nitelet, Nickolas and Grant Tatar; also 5 great grandsons, Abraham, Isaac, Adrian. Israel and Caden.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Connor Zick and Elizabeth Nitelet.

A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Faith Reformed Church. The family will greet friends starting at 10:00 am. A luncheon will follow. Military Honors will be held at 2:30 pm at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
