Richard DuWayne Stubbs, Sr. of Traverse City, Michigan passed away March 4th, 2023. He was born on November 15th, 1968 in Frankfort, MI to Jesse and Glenda Cantu. He was adopted in 1972 by Shirley and Wayne Stubbs of Michigan. Richard reunited with several of his siblings and his dad around the age of 12 and became reacquainted with them. He set out on his own at 13 and reunited with his eldest sister when he was 16. He met his wife around that time and they were married for 20 years but their friendship continued beyond that.

Richard enjoyed learning about his heritage as an Ottawa & Chippewa Indian and Mexican. He learned about the language of both and met many of his Mexican family while living in Florida for several years and his Native American cousins while residing in Traverse City for the past 13 years. During that time he reunited with his siblings, getting to know them. He was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and woodcraft. He enjoyed sports mainly as a fan and outdoor activities. His favorite was walking or biking around town meeting and spending time with people. He loved sitting around a campfire talking to his friends and many cousins telling stories and making jokes. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.

Richard was preceded in death by Shirley Stubbs, Jesse Cantu, Glenda (Boulton) Cantu, andsister, Juanita Renaud.

He is survived by son, Richard Duwayne Stubbs, Jr, siblings Daniel (Kirsten) Boulton, Wanda (Tim) Carlisle, Mary Streeter, Jesse (Katherine) Day, Carolina (Gilbert) Herrera, and Van Cleve Cantu.

An informal gathering will be held 1pm to 4pm, Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Church of the Nazarene, 1023 S. Division St.
