Richard Thayer

Richard Anthony Thayer died February 6, 2023 at the age of 76. He was born June 22, 1946 the son of Gerald and Lenora (Baker) Thayer in Traverse City.

He honorably served in the US Army and separated from Fort Lewis, Washington. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

He retired from the Oleson Stores in Traverse City where he worked for over 20 years.

He loved riding his bike everywhere as long as his health permitted. He also enjoyed fishing in Spider Lake.

He is survived by his brother, Michael (Carol) Thayer; his sister, Phyllis Meachem; his daughter, Suzzanne (Gregory) Akey; his son, Kevin Thayer; his grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Joshua and Mason; and his good friends, Pat and Mitch who have been there for him whenever he needed them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Lenora Thayer; and his brothers, James and Gary.

A celebration of his life will be held 1pm, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Life Story Funeral Home.
