Traverse City — Robert “Bob” A. Steadman, 97, passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Leelanau on November 1, 2025. Bob, as many friends called him, was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on June 7, 1928, the son of Robert and Calista (Lewis) Steadman.
He grew up in Marcellus, New York and graduated from the local high school in 1946. His family moved to Michigan where he then entered Wayne State and received his bachelor’s degree in law in 1951.
Bob was drafted into the US Army from 1951-1953 as a Lt. US Army Chemical Corps. After the Army, Robert moved back to Michigan and settled in Flint near his parents. After a few years in the area, he wanted to learn to fly and that is when he met his Pilot Trainer, and his future wife, Bernice “B” Trimble, and they married in 1959. A love that lasted for 56 years until her passing in 2015. He practiced law in the area until 1972 when they moved to Traverse City.
Robert is survived by his son, Michael (Patty) Steadman of Traverse City, Michigan; his brother, Richard Steadman; two grandchildren, Josh Steadman of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Melissa (Nick) King of Plainwell, Michigan; along with 3 great grandchildren (all girls), Abby, Maddie, and Winter.
Robert enjoyed many hobbies including some of his favorites like hunting, fishing and golf. Robert was kind, considerate, and respectful to everyone he met, and was loved by many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bob’s family would like to especially thank the entire staff at Medilodge of Leelanau Assisted Care Facility and Northern Michigan Hospice for the loving care and attention they dedicated to him during his end of life.
No memorial services will be held. He will be laid to rest in Rudyard Cemetery next to his wife, Bernice.
