Roger Joseph Scheele of Traverse City, Michigan passed away on June 30, 2023, peacefully in his home. Roger was born in Cheboygan Michigan on January 16, 1953, to Bernard and Lucille (Bur) Scheele. He graduated from Cheboygan Catholic High School and was a member of the 1969 state championship football team.

After attending Alpena Community College, he worked in the oil and gas industry in Texas. He moved back to Northern Michigan from Texas and worked in the communication field in Petoskey. Roger was an avid whitetail deer hunter and ice fisherman and he nicknamed himself as “Roger the Dodger.” He enjoyed a good game of euchre. He was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Traverse City Pitspitters. He was proud to call Traverse City his hometown for over 40 years and was an active member of Saint Francis Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Scheele.

He is survived by his mother, Lucille (Bur) Scheele of Cheboygan, and his siblings; Gerald Scheele, Petaluma, California, Robert (Bonnie), Traverse City, Dennis (Margot) Scheele, Interlochen, Allen Scheele, Honor, Gregory Scheele, James (Marji) Scheele, Richard Scheele, Janet (Wayne) Aldrich, John (Jody) Scheele, all from Cheboygan, and Renee (James) Brown, Grayling, Michigan. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews.

The family requests that donations be to the Father Fred Foundation in Traverse City, Michigan, and St. Francis Catholic Church, in Traverse City, Michigan.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11 am, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at St. Mary’s - St. Charles Catholic Church, Cheboygan. The family will greet friends starting at 10 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Cheboygan.
