Rev. Roy Dettwiler left this earthly life on April 26th, 2023 at 100 years and 6 months of age. He was born in Brutus, Michigan, October 9th, 1922. Roy is a veteran of the Army serving January 1943 to January 1946. He was a surgical technician serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He earned a Bronze Star.

Roy recently resided in Traverse City at Traverse Manor, 1899 Dracka Rd, Traverse City, Michigan 49685.

Roy was proceeded in death by Esther (Hoover) Dettwiler, beloved wife, Minerva (Snider) Dettwiler, mother, Aaron Dettwiler, father, brothers, and sisters.

Roy is survived by son Robert (Bob) Dettwiler, wife Mary; grandson, Jason Dettwiler, wife Cheri, great grandchildren, Anna and Daniel, grandson, Joshua Dettwiler, wife Amy; great grandchildren, Rylie and Graysen, grandson, Jeffery Dettwiler, wife Erin great grandchildren Chase, Skye and Slone, son Ralph Dettwiler, wife Mylene, grandson Robert Santiago, grandson Brandon Santiago, wife Kim, great grandchildren Zoe and Kai, granddaughter Kirstin Dettwiler, husband Jesse Brewer.

Roy attended Bethel College earning a Bachelor’s Degree and Michigan State University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Education. He taught in several school systems in Michigan, most recently North Branch, Buckley and Cheboygan. In Buckley he also served as Principal. Roy was also a Minister with the United Missionary Conference and served in Michigan. Most recently he ministered in Marlette and Buckley (The Tabernacle).

Roy and Esther built their retirement home in Cheboygan, Michigan. They eventually moved to a home in Avon Park, Florida. They were very active in the Avon Park Camp Association.

He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and a great example of a life dedicated to God’s work. He held fast to his faith and retained his dignity and love of family to the end. He will be missed by his family but his influence will live on.

There will be no funeral services for Roy at this time. He will be laid to rest in Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines, Florida with his beloved wife. Roy’s family will have a private service and Military burial to honor his military service. .
