Life Story / Obituary
Ruth Anne Blick passed away early Saturday morning, October 19th, 2024, at age 61. She was born March 20, 1963, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, to parents, Norman and Dorothy Schlarbaum.
Ruth moved to the United States from Canada in 1988 to marry her beloved husband Richard Blick; they moved to Traverse City in 1995 as a family of three with their son, Bryce Blick.
Ruth was a wife, mother, sister, friend, and a guiding light to the community. Ruth worked for non-profits for much of her life, first serving the community at Goodwill and most recently serving as the Director of Community Resource Development at the Salvation Army for the last 10 years.
Ruth loved what she did, and her work around the holiday season always brought her immense joy. She could be seen smiling and ringing bells about town around Christmas, often with family by her side.
The only thing more important to Ruth than community was family. She loved to spend time with them combing beaches for Petoskey stones or heart-shaped rocks. She is survived by her husband Richard, son Bryce, and two brothers, Dave and John Schlarbaum.
Ruth's warm heart, infectious laugh, and listening ear will be dearly missed and remembered by all.
An informal gathering will be held 2pm to 4pm, Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Life Story Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held 11am, Monday, October 28, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made in Ruth’s name to the Salvation Army of Traverse City Teen Angel program.
