Sally Draeger

Sally Jane Clarke Draeger passed away May 7, 2024 in Traverse City, Michigan after a very full life.

Sally was born December 1, 1930 in Riverside, Illinois to Agnes and John Lyell Clarke. She married Walter Raymond Draeger, Jr, January 5, 1952, knowing on their first date, he was going to be the man she married. Walter preceded Sally in death on December 2, 2020, after 68 years of marriage.

Sally loved her family and animals immeasurably; they were always important in Sally’s childhood and adult life. She created a community through social gatherings, family reunions, as a team member of the Red Cross Disaster Relief team for Hurricanes and 911, serving in Loaves and Fishes, starting food banks, and even a hospice chapter.

She is survived by her five children Carey Draeger, Bruce Draeger (Denise), Sarah Cronkhite (Dean), Walter Raymond Draeger III (Mary Jo), and Frances Gary (J. Daniel); Grandchildren Adrianne Johnson, Rebecca Draeger, Rachel Draeger, Benjamin Cronkhite, Frances Alexander, Walter R. Draeger IV, Dana Gary; and five great-grandchildren Koby, Malachi, Bella, Emma, and Carson.

A service honoring her life will be held Friday, July 26, 11:00 am at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Lansing, Michigan.
