Sandra Sue Greenlaw, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday evening at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City of a rare neurological disease called multiple system atrophy. She was born of Joe and Betty Kissinger on Sept. 28, 1940 at the family home, 107 S. Division St., Manton, the last of eight children.

She was a full time mother all of her life and was employed part time at the Traverse City Record-Eagle in the circulation and mail room departments for 15 years.

Her husband, Frank, met Sandra at the J&S Hamburg in February of 1961, and he wasn't going to let her get away from him. He proposed in July and they were married on Oct. 7, 1961, celebrating 55 years of marriage this past October. Together they had four children, Kimberly (Philip) Hakim, of Naperville, Illinois, Lisa Greenlaw, of Miramar, Florida, Julie (Robert) Powell, of Traverse City, and Marc Greenlaw, of Hancock.

Her favorite pastimes were taking care of our six grandchildren, Miranda and Sally Hakim, Alejandro and Christian Manon, who are Lisa's children, Dylan Powell and Logan Greenlaw; she shared a great and equal love for each one of them.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, James, Douglas and Gary; and two sisters, Maxine and Sandra Jean.

She is survived by one brother, Jon, of Alameda, California.

Frank and Sandra loved to travel to each of their kids, each of whom lived from Florida to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She spent great times traveling in the 19 years since Frank retired, except the past three years when her health started to deteriorate.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Life Story Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The family will greet friends starting at 10 a.m. Due to the construction at Immaculate Conception Church, a light luncheon will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church Social Hall, 1025 S. Union St., Traverse City. Private burial will be in the Oakwood Diocesan Catholic Cemetery, Traverse City.

Memorial contributions may be made to the GTACS Capital Campaign for the new Immaculate Conception Elementary School, 123 E. 11th St., Traverse City, MI 49684 or online at https://gtacs.org/donations/capital-campaign/.
