Scott Wesley Barker, of Traverse City, died Saturday, November 23, 2019.

He was born on June 7, 1939 the son of Lauren James and Dorthy (Trenary) Barker.

Scott was preceded in death by his son Scott W. Barker, Jr and brother, Thomas Trenary Barker and survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Ann (Sly); his daughter, Lori (Barker)Turner; sister, Julie Barker Wood; grandson, Shawn Wesley Barker; stepchildren, Dean Curtis, Susan Quadrani and Nancy Taylor; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a United States Veteran serving in the US Army.

Scott spent over 40 years as a carpenter in the Lansing area. He was active in AA for over 35 years and ran meetings at the Kingsley Sportsman Club where he was a member.

He and Shirley volunteered for the Us TOO prostate cancer support groups after his treatment for prostate cancer. Scott was an avid sportsman, fisherman, woodworker and prankster. Scott was generous with his time, his talents and his money. He was often the anonymous donor of food, money or necessities for people he knew were in need. He continued volunteering his time and energy, even into his years at home with dementia, he still knew that he needed to help others. Scott will be remembered with great love and many stories by all who knew him.
