Steven Hutchens

Steven Raymond Hutchens, 71, of Traverse City, passed away on July 8, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born in Marquette Michigan on March 28, 1951. He married Barbara at the Marshall family cabin in the UP on July 10, 1976.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Hutchens (Marshall), son Jasen Hutchens (Stephanie Gustafson), and daughter Christina Hutchens (Granddaughters, Lucia and Laken). Steve was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and June Hutchens and sister Adean (Hutchens) Robinette.

Steve grew up in Marquette, MI in his early years and then moved to Escanaba where he graduated high school. He received his associates degree from Lake Superior State University in mechanical engineering technology and worked for Cone Drive Textron. In his 50’s, Steve received a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in education technology from Michigan State University. He taught Drafting at Northwestern Michigan College and Computer Aided Drafting and Design at TBA Career Tech Center until he retired at age 62.

Steve was proud of his service in the United States Air Force.

Barb and Steve were best friends, traveling the world together, watching sunsets, listening to live music, watching the birds in his backyard, and being on the water. He enjoyed watching Michigan State basketball and the Green Bay Packers. He loved being a grandpa to his granddaughters and sharing special moments swimming, camping in their RV and snuggling.

Steve touched many people with his love, joy for life, appreciation for friends and family and his peaceful presence.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, August 30, 2022 at Faith Reformed church with visitation from 10-11am. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to Warrior Sailing or Faith Reformed Church.
