Thomas (Tom) Robert Cooper, Passed Away Peacefully in Traverse City, Michigan on January 27, 2020 at the age of 73. Tom was born raised in Grand Rapids, having gone to Ottawa Hills High School and attended Western Michigan College in Kalamazoo. The family also had a cottage on Torch Lake, near Traverse City where he spent many glorious years water skiing, fishing & boating. In the early 1970's Tom was enlisted in the Air Force and left the service with an honorable discharge. Tom had a successful career that spanned over 40 years in banking and finance in Michigan, Nevada, California and Florida. He also traveled a great deal with his wife, Elaina, to Italy and Europe, and was an avid golfer participating in many golf leagues with The Elks Lodge #321 in Traverse City and San Diego. After retiring in 2012 he devoted time to Habitat to Humanity building homes for the needy. He was a true American patriot and supported many veteran groups such as "The Wounded Warrior Project." He was a generous humanitarian and loved the United States of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. and Hilda Cooper, and his brother Terry. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Elaina Salerno. He is also survived by sister's Carol (Joe) and Mary Pat (Rick); his son, Michael (Shelly) and daughter Kimberly; sister-in-law, Barbara and nephew's, CJ and Theo and niece's, Traci and Katie and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. A private family memorial will take place at Torch Lake this summer. Memorial Contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
