Thomas Albert Herald, 72, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 5, 2022. He was born on January 9, 1950, in Traverse City the son of Albert and Florence (Thayer) Herald.

Thomas graduated from Traverse City High School in 1968 and immediately began working as a part-time Deputy Sheriff. Following that he was a Volunteer Fireman in East Bay Township then he became one of the first Paramedics in Traverse City. Afterwards, he served as a bouncer and DJ at a topless bar in Cadillac, then moved on to Triangle Security as a security guard. Thomas then entered the garbage business in Cadillac before moving and continuing in Traverse City. He worked at United Waste, Waste Management and American Waste where he retired in 2015.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR and loved the fresh air. Thomas was an outdoorsman where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mowing.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Sally (Birdwell, Bone) whom he married June 22, 1985, in Cadillac; children, David (Amy) Herald of Traverse City, Kristy Herald of Pennsylvania, Sarah (Steve) Thompson of Traverse City and Lori Herald of Traverse City; 3 granddaughters; 2 grandsons; 1 great-granddaughter, and 1 great-grandson; and one niece Amanda.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sue Schaub.
