Thomas VanDeventer

Thomas Earl VanDeventer passed away unexpectedly June 24, 2023.

Tom was born October 14, 1942 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He served in the Army in Vietnam. He married Patricia Murphy on May 15, 1970; they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Tom was a hard worker that was always there to provide for his family. Tom enjoyed driving semi-trucks and worked for Elmer's Crane and Dozer.

He loved spending time with his family. Tom loved traveling around the United States, especially the National Parks. He never missed a theatrical performance, sporting events, dance recital, karate tournament, or any event his family was in. He was a great mechanic and builder. If you need directions Tom was the original GPS.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, David and Geneva (Peters) VanDeventer; son, Timothy Belanger and sister Shirley Porter-VanDeventer.

Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Mark Belanger and wife Lesley Belanger and their children, Josh Belanger and his wife Shawna Belanger and Emily Belanger; daughter, Jo Prechtl and her husband, Eric Prechtl and their children, Stephen Prechtl and Skyler Prechtl; sisters, Pat Hartsell and Joyce Templin and her husband, James Templin and brothers, Karl VanDeventer and his wife, Becky VanDeventer and Roger VanDeventer and his wife, Gloria VanDeventer

The family's preference is to have contributions to the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition.

Visitation will be held 4pm to 6pm, Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Life Story Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Friday, June 30, 2023 at the funeral home with visitation starting at 10 am. Military Honors will be held at 1 pm, Friday at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
