Life Story / Obituary
William M. Nesper 88 of Suttons Bay died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, Michigan surrounded by family members. Bill was born May 1, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio the son of William A. and Gladys M. (Sturdevant) Nesper. He was a Private First Class and Rifleman in the US Army during World War II. Bill received the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Victory Medal WW II and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a troubleshooter with Standard Oil working in Ohio, Indiana, Detroit. Bill and his family moved to Suttons Bay in 1969 and he covered Standard Oil's Traverse City Regional division, which included Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In 1971 became the business owner of Bill's Standard Service in Suttons Bay until the later 1970's. Bill was also known by repairing local residential heating units. Bill is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 383. He enjoyed working on cars, snowmobiling and boating. He also enjoyed traveling with his two sons to the Soo Locks, numerous Railroad Museums and the Wright Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. Bill is survived by his sons, David (Roxanne) Nesper of Medical Lake, WA and Thomas (Terry Trojanowski) Nesper of Traverse City, grandchildren, Kimberly Nesper of Medical Lake, WA and Margaret Gustafson of Spring Lake, Mich, two great-grandchildren and brother, Ken (Betty) Nesper of Perrysburg, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret Jean "Peggy" (Slawson) Nesper. Cremation has taken place. Graveside Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Ft. Meigs Cemetery, Perrysburg, Ohio. The Perrysburg American Legion Post #28 will provide Military Honors. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Munson Medical Center, Outpatient Cancer Care Fund, 210 Beaumont Place, Traverse City, Michigan 49684.
